an old green Irish Post (An Post) post box. I don't think this box is in use considering the post office is about one mile from here and this one could use a clean-up and some fresh paint.
They are blue here and at the library patrons get confused and put letters in the the book drop and books in the post office box (the book drop is on the driver's side and the postal box you have to get out to mail a letter. Although, the book drop is bigger and brown. We now have the shiny metal voting box too, but they are pretty much shut tight until election time.
We still seem to be well-supplied with Post boxes - there are at least 4 or 5 within a mile of my house - even though letters are a thing of the past for many people. Maybe I ought to go out and photograph all our boxes before they disappear forever - I certainly won't find any green ones!
Imagens que nos remetem para o tempo em que as pessoas escreviam cartas... agora tudo está à distância de um mail a partir do telefone ou do computador... Gostei imenso de ver! Aqui na vila também temos um... pintado de vermelho! Abraço Ana
Try sending yourself a letter!
ReplyDeleteit needs a new paint color ^^
ReplyDeletehave a nice weekend Bill :)
Stefan is kinda right!
ReplyDeleteRegardless of the condition of the Postbox, the mail must go through.
ReplyDeleteIts a beauty Bill.
ReplyDeleteSeems quaint, doesn't it? Would be great to preserve it as part of history.
ReplyDeleteIt could use a freshen up, new paint.
ReplyDeleteTake care, enjoy your day and have a great new week!
How can you send an e-mail through a letter box? There's no USB connection.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
...I would not have known what it was.

ReplyDeleteI wonder if there are any years old letters inside waiting to be picked up.
ReplyDeleteI think that mail will be late! ;-)
ReplyDeleteWell, that's a very different kind of mail box.
ReplyDeleteSo different from our mail boxes here.
ReplyDeleteI like this one!! It could use a little TLC.
What a beautiful style of mailbox
ReplyDeleteThere are many such mailboxes in Cyprus that have survived from the British. They look a lot like this. Unused but no one removed it :)
ReplyDeleteOur mailboxes look so different. It's fun to see what this one looked like.
ReplyDeletePoor thing! It needs to be repaired and go to a museum... Nice pic.
ReplyDeleteGood evening, Bill.
~~~~~~
The UK has the BEST post boxes.
ReplyDeleteWho knows? Perhaps letters are collected here regularly, or maybe not. Fine, old post box from an earlier era.
ReplyDeleteThat's really unique looking! I've never seen one like that before.
ReplyDeleteLindo buzón de otros tiempos. Te mando un beso.
ReplyDeleteIt does look sad. I like the color though.
ReplyDeleteHad never seen a green post box! Only red!
ReplyDeleteWell, yes, a cleaning hand would not hurt, it is beautiful and a memory of another time, it should be preserved
ReplyDeleteHappy week.
Best regards.
Love it. Sadly we don't see many old letterboxes much, think I've seen 2 in the last 20 years or so.
