A poster ad for a Henry Girls concert.  We had other plans so we didn't attend.  I included a clip of them singing so you can hear a sample.  They are very popular in Donegal.

The Henry Girls are an Irish folk and roots music group. The band consists of three sisters: Karen, Lorna and Joleen McLaughlin. All three have studied music and are multi-instrumentalist, utilizing fiddles, ukulele, banjo, guitar, harp, mandolin, piano, and accordion.  The Henry Girls often sing in harmony and their sound has been described as a mix of traditional Irish folk music and Americana.  The McLaughlin sisters are from Malin in Inishowen, County Donegal, in Ulster, Ireland. They formed the band over 10 years ago and named the band after their grandfather.

monday mural

A guy who was passing through the area when we were photographing this mural  shared the history depicted in the mural.  He said that in the past, before they built the stairs and stuff along the river, guys would go out with their nets four times a day to catch salmon. It would then be brought out at a hut at the edge of the river. The mural depicts such a scene.

solar street bins

Killybegs just got two new solar street bins placed in town last week, these are compacting bins.  The first one is in front of the bank on Main St.  We first saw these when were in Ballina.  I guess you could call them smart bins. :)

the second one is down in the center of town at the Diamond

bus washer machine

the bus going through the process of being washed.  The tall metal machine maneuvers on the yellow track and the bus moves forward when it's required.  First time I ever seen this being done.

monday mural

I saw this mural when I was on the bus passing through Sligo.  The gantleman is Joe Carroll, a local resident of Sligo.  Unfortunately it was raining when we passed it.

Joe was a regular sight around Sligo town with his navy trench coat and famous cap.  He was often mistaken for a garda or traffic warden as he liked to direct the town's traffic on certain occasions.  His own mode of transport was a black bicycle which was a regular sight around Sligo in the eighties and nineties.  Info courtesy of

nephin mountain

is the second highest mountain in Connacht. Nephin means ‘heavenly’ and the views you can get from it are no contradiction to the name. (Info courtesy of IBUD website)
The river you see is the River Moy and it runs through Ballina where this photo was taken.
