good news
some €14.7million will be invested in Killybegs harbour in the coming year under Project Ireland 2040. It will help to fund a 120m quay extension at Smooth Point – a significant development for the north west coast and a big boost for the county.

Ballybookies is no longer in the green and yellow building. It is now vacant and getting a new paint job. We happen to pass it one moring last week.

crazy intersection
Even when it is safe to cross the road there are cars who just continue driving in the intersection to beat the light. There are three sets of lights so you better pay attention.

A poster ad for a Henry Girls concert. We had other plans so we didn't attend. I included a clip of them singing so you can hear a sample. They are very popular in Donegal.
The Henry Girls are an Irish folk and roots music group. The band consists of three sisters: Karen, Lorna and Joleen McLaughlin. All three have studied music and are multi-instrumentalist, utilizing fiddles, ukulele, banjo, guitar, harp, mandolin, piano, and accordion. The Henry Girls often sing in harmony and their sound has been described as a mix of traditional Irish folk music and Americana. The McLaughlin sisters are from Malin in Inishowen, County Donegal, in Ulster, Ireland. They formed the band over 10 years ago and named the band after their grandfather.

monday mural
A guy who was passing through the area when we were photographing this mural shared the history depicted in the mural. He said that in the past, before they built the stairs and stuff along the river, guys would go out with their nets four times a day to catch salmon. It would then be brought out at a hut at the edge of the river. The mural depicts such a scene.

solar street bins
Killybegs just got two new solar street bins placed in town last week, these are compacting bins. The first one is in front of the bank on Main St. We first saw these when were in Ballina. I guess you could call them smart bins. :)
the second one is down in the center of town at the Diamond
