In 2016 a special plaque had been added to remember all those who have been lost at sea. The plaque had been commissioned alongside the existing memorial in the village playground.
another memorial can be found at Saint Mary's church which is located nearby. The little bronze plate on the lower part of the memorial states: this plaque was placed in this Garden of Remembrance during the restoration of our church 2012.
Forever ankered. Think I like the first one the best.
ReplyDeleteThe sea can be cruel to be sure.
ReplyDelete...some jobs can be very dangerous.
ReplyDeleteThe sea is very unforgiving and demands respect.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea the memorial is in the playground.
ReplyDeleteThe sea gives and also takes away. These are impressive images and an important memorial!!
ReplyDeleteSad memories.
ReplyDeleteThe sea is beautiful and intimidating. "The sea gives, the sea takes".
ReplyDeleteHi Bill.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful memorial for the people who drowned at sea.
Groettie from Patricia.
The sea can be so unpredictable and so cruel! Lovely memorials Bill ✨
ReplyDeleteThose of us who like to sit on a beach and watch the waves crashing on the shore, forget about the lethal power of the sea! This is a perfect reminder.
ReplyDeleteVery poignant, Bill.
ReplyDeletePraying.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Western Washington being a fishing state with many ports on the ocean---I see too many of these. But everyone should be remembered.

That is a lot of names for a small town. Tragedy must have touched every family at some time.
ReplyDeleteIt is a hard and dangerous life. We have seen a few similar memorials along the Pacific Coast from Alaska and on into California. But it looks like so many from this one town that you show.
ReplyDeleteI've seen variations of these in many areas where there have been a lot of fishermen. People sometimes forget how treacherous fishing can be.
ReplyDeleteWe should remember those lost at sea and never returned
ReplyDeleteLovely post.....we do not often remember those lost at sea like this.
