in aid for hospice this past Saturday. Cars slowed down to give their donation to one of the guys holding a bucket. If you didn't want to donate, you would just drive on by.
I hate to sound like a curmudgeon, but I am always suspicious of these bucket drives. You have no way of knowing that all the money donated reaches its intended charity and that a few of the people collecting have not lined their pockets. I prefer to send a cheque to the charities of my choice and not be accosted on the road.
Unfortunately there are many scammers out there now and it is harder to trust people in this day and age. It's up to the individuals to make this decision. I would probably contribute something...a small amount. But no more than a dollar or two. Just my opinion 🌹
We used to see this happening a lot more when we loved in VA as the towns were smaller. Since we’ve been living in a city, I have not seen similar donation requests. But, it’s a worthy thing to contribute too. The firemen used to have a boot for motorists to put their donations.
Hi Bill.
ReplyDeleteI hope they get a lot of money.

ReplyDeleteWe sometimes have firemen holding a bucket at major traffic intersections. I can't explain why, but for some reason they annoy me.
