hydrangea

came across this hidden beauty next to the health centre.  Probably one of the very last flowers here in town that I've seen.

  2. I learnt when the soil is low PH, the flower will turn purple.

  6. Hydrangeas do last well into the fall - even here. There are many different varieties too.

  12. My goodness :-) what a delicate blue... and when the hydrangea fades, it's still beautiful.
I planted dalia bulbs this spring and they are blooming profusely now... and even the roses feel like summer is coming. I enjoy it!
An enjoyable week for you Bill.

  18. Yes, Bill must be the last flowers in Donegal. My mother was born on one of the nine islands of the volcanic archipelago of the Azores which is called the blue island because of the blue hydrangea landscapes. Originating in also volcanic Japan and with a similar latitude, they have adapted so well that many people think they are an indigenous species.
I really like them, they remind me of Mom's intense blue eyes...
    Beautiful photo. Bill. A hug.

  22. Lovely. It reminds me of the huge hydrangeas we saw in Cornwall, especially those at the parking area for Carn Euny. Those towered over our heads and lined the path for a good distance. Magical.
