the 966

bus coming through Bunbeg at 11:15 on its way to Dungloe.  Local Link provides a great service to the people who live in rural Ireland.  The bus, along with other bus services, are free with a travel pass.  Once you reach 65 you qualify.

  1. Nice that free ride over 65. Something that doesn't really exist in the Netherlands.

  4. Would you believe I never rode on a bus other than a school bus when I was a kid? That was a 1 hour trip twice a day for 12 years. I was 'bussed' out! Have a wonderful day- I so love discovering your Ireland through your camera. Hugs to you and Shari. Diana

  6. Hello,
The buses for seniors are very convenient, we have them here too.

  8. Is a tourist over 65 eligible for the pass too, or is that strictly for residents?

    1. When a bus broke down when I was travelling in Europe all the passengers got out to help push it to the side of the road. They did not allow me to push because I was a tourist and not eligible.

      God bless.

    2. The travel pass is only for Irish citizens. Tourists can buy discounted tickets for the days they want to travel.

  14. We have free bus service here in our community, as well as pre-arranged transports available to doctors and such appointments. Several people at the Lunch Site also were transported daily when I used to eat there. It's still going, but I stay away from eating indoors with other unmasked people these days!

  15. Our state in India also offers free bus pass to people over 60 to travel locally.

  16. Buses are cheaper here for seniors but certainly not free. It would be nice.
Glad to see you back, Bill.

  28. Nice photo, I love the sloping road! I've only ridden on a bus once other than when I rode the school bus. I traveled from Central Ohio to Central Florida years ago when I had 2 small boys and was pregnant with my daughter. I once rode a train from North Carolina to Florida and enjoyed it more than the bus because the train had a "rocking" feeling :)

  29. That's great that it's free for those over 65, we don't have that here.

  30. Sounds like a great service. Here we get a reduced rate but not by much.

  31. Uy genial parece un buen servicio. Ojala fuera lo mismo en mi país. Te mando un beso

  32. Great concept. I think we don´t have that here.
Many a retired person collects bottles to recycle to get some extra-cash, it´s sad.
I think using public transport is a bit cheaper, though, when you reach a certain age.

  33. Very spring like photo!Wish you all the best Bill! :)))

  34. We don’t have free trips, not even for seniors. And as teleworking increases and more cars are used because of the corona, passengers will be reduced and there will be a need for price increases. And the circle is complete.

  35. We have the same free bus service to seniors here in Nashua, NH, but I have never used the service.
