I just finished reading a book, Then There Was Light. It's a collection of reminiscences about the rural electrification scheme in Ireland. The stories were interesting and some concerns of the people at the time this was going on, in the 1940s were rather comical. It was a good read!
I presume you read the account of the man who used to switch on the light to find the matches to light the oil lamp and then switch the light off :-)
ReplyDeleteI don't know if that was mentioned but it seems familiar and would definitely fit in to the stories told in the book :) There were a few others that just made you laugh and shake your head. A woman wouldn't use the electric kettle for her tea because she feared getting electrocuted. But to those people who experienced that new way of doing things, these were real concerns. A great read it was!

Bill, you can make wires look good!
ReplyDeleteGreat intersection of wires here for a great photo, Bill! Now you can see where the phrase getting your wires crossed comes from!
ReplyDeleteHere in Holland they are all disappeared under ground. Only problem to keeps maps where everything sits when planning new works.
ReplyDeletecool shot of the wires connecting!
ReplyDeleteNicely composed shot. It would make a good cover for a novel about double dealing or double crossing...
ReplyDeleteNice light in this photo, and great composition!
ReplyDeleteNice composition, Bill !
ReplyDeleteI like the "X" made of wires :)
The wires are in perfect order. Here in Norway I saw some looking like The Gordian Knot. Nice done Bill.
ReplyDeleteGood shot to go with the book!
ReplyDeleteIdeal to photograph this in black and white, Bill.
ReplyDeleteI think some of those concerns have now been transferred to cell phone towers.
