Wonderful to see the good old pagan custom of illuminating the Evergreen Tree prior to Winter Solstice Celebration and the re-birth of the Sun, such a pity it is wrongly labelled as being part of the fictitious christmas... https://aheronsview.blogspot.ie
so pretty! looks like a huge turnout...our tree downtown was lit on friday night but we didn't go...they hold a fun event "a dickens of a christmas" and on the first one, which was friday, they light the tree...we'll go to the next one (i think there are 3 every christmas).
Looks very pretty. ( is the tree a gift from another city?) Oslo send one to London each year. The council pay for the BIG one we have outside the Cathedral. I love all the lights this time of the year. Our little road looks so pretty this time of year, and I guess it gets dark in Ireland early in the evenings too.
No, the tree wasn't a gift from another city. The town got the tree and the lights. The local people are donating funds to cover part of the expense so I guess you would call it a community partnership which is nice. It gets dark around 4-4:30 right now.
O Natal já anda no ar.
ReplyDeleteUm abraço e boa semana.

ReplyDeleteIts indeed that time of the year again but for us dutch we have to wait until tomorrow. Today is for SinterKlaas. After that Santa is welcome.
ReplyDeleteLooking really pretty!
ReplyDelete...brightening the night!
ReplyDeleteThat's nice. I think we had a lighting ceremony downtown but I didn't go. It looks like there was a good turnout for this lighting, though. Chilly?
ReplyDeleteVery nice shot - adds a touch of "warmth" to our short dark evenings!
