Garden of Remembrance

A Garden of Remembrance is also located in a section of the Letterkenny Town Park.  It opened in honour of the memory of members of the Gardaí and Army who have given their lives in service of the United Nations. A stone bench was unveiled in the park on 10 July 2007 to honour James Duffy (VC), a British soldier during the First World War, and an Irish recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy.

  1. A beautiful memorial. Sad that we still need such things. :(

  2. The memorials are beautiful in a beauiful setting but sad that people had to lose their lives.

  3. This little garden of remembrance provides viewers with a quiet opportunity to reflect and remember those who served. Nice.

  4. I've known of United Nations forces serving in various places around the world, but we don't hear much about them in this country as the focus is invariably on our own military. Therefore, I think this is a terrific memorial to give honor to those who served with in these many instances with people from other countries.

  5. Dignified and poignant. I know our troops served as peacekeepers in most, if not each of those missions.

  7. Nice spot! I think it's important to honor people, but even more, it's important to show children that we make an effort to show respect.

  8. Oh, too many names on that wall. Good to be remembered in such a lovely place, though.
