double parking

is an issue on Saturday nights and Sundays when people attend St. Pius X church services.  It's causing traffic problems and the town isn't happy.  The county council is looking for a solution and one solution is to create a parking area close by.  Around fifty cars double parked during Mass, making it difficult for passing two-way traffic.

  1. It's good to see people going to church. Did not know about double parking though. Over here you would soon get a fine.

    God bless.

  2. The double parked cars certainly present a danger to everyone. Wishing you both a nice day.

  3. I wonder if they'll admit to the sin of double-parking in confession.

  4. Double parked for a church service. A first for me.

  5. Don't they have bicycles as we have in the Netherlands?

  6. That must be the only church in the surroundings, as it is so crowded. Is there no public transport available?

    1. There are two other churches near St. Pius but most the people who go to St. Pius are Catholic and they have the biggest congregation in town. Public transport is available but not locally. The buses that are available take you to other towns and are limited on weekends. People could walk but I'm sure it would be a long walk.

  7. The parking area would be really necessary. (And I agree s.c - it would be like a some music concert or sport happening.. :)

  9. Perhaps a carpooling should be organised.

  10. I don’t know many churches here these days with similar issues. Congregations have diminished so much.

  11. That would be a big problem. And, if you came to church early and got the curb parking, there is no way to leave early once you are blocked in.

  12. I see my car is parked on the very left corner of the last photo.!

  13. Even though it is a problem, let's hope they don't get fines. Church is not within walking distance for some.

  14. Close the church....that would solve the problem.

  15. That must be an awesome church to have so many people attending. I wouldn't like my car to be pinned in, but would love to attend a service.

  16. Another good reason not to go to church! :)

  17. That is just awful! The church my daughter goes to has a shuttle bus from a parking lot off site that just keeps making the rounds during services. It works good for them.
Hope you and Shari are having a wonderful weekend- Diana

  18. That's a problem hard to solve, I think.

  19. Perhaps a shuttle service would work.

  20. It doesn't look as if anyone's addressing the problem. In the U.S. they'd be ticketed and then there'd be a big brouhaha over that. The church needs to get involved in finding a solution. Any other event and tow trucks would be warranted.

  22. I'd be upset if I were locked in. As usual, I don't get by very often but I like your new header - nice way to sum up the theme of the blog. I've driven on plenty of narrow rural Irish roads and I dread coming abreast of a big bus or lorry. Heave knows what happens when they cfoss one another.

  23. Parking lots for churches must be a requirement most places in the US -- at least in every place in the US where we've spent any time -- I've never seen one that didn't have one. (Unscientific study, just personal observation,) ... that church is obviously very popular.

  25. Hey, Bill, are you OK? Don't think your absence hasn't been noticed. I've missed your postings and hope that all is well with you and yours! Maybe you're just taking a little break?
