St Mary’s Church in Derrybeg was gutted by a fire overnight. There were no injuries. The fire happened at 4am on Monday You can read it here if interested.
So glad you had a photo of the "before the fire" to share, as it no longer looks like that! I'm sure many people will be sad about its destruction. Churches are the focus of many people's lives.
This was a fine looking church with an interesting building. Rebuilding will take a major effort and dedication of the community. It is a great loss, and I hope they had fire insurance.
What a shame, it was such a beautiful church. Must be heartbreaking for the Derrybeg community. Glad no one was hurt, but I’m sure it’s still tough. Hope they’re able to rebuild it soon.

Oh how scary! The apartment building close to a relative I know caught on fire from a lit cigarette on the balcony. It was frightening to see.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if they will rebuild it. I am reminded of the manner in which Notre Dame de Paris was brought back after the inferno there.
ReplyDeleteAn architecturally interesting looking church, too bad.
