My great grandfather, from Ireland divided his land with small stone walls. When I saw them in Ireland, it was an incredible moment to realize he had taken a tradition from his homeland with him to his new home.
I love a stone wall. We had several on the farm I grew up on in Pennsylvania. I have always had a stack of stones somewhere on the different properties I have lived on. Several times I have had people ask me if I was Irish-- because of the stones. lol.
I have noticed that the Irish have great skill at building stone walls. There seems to be a good supply of raw material available. Fine photo of this wall, Bill.
Awesome to notice. We have some stonewalls in the hill country of Texas a lot like this. The German settlements were the ones I'm told who started it. Love the photo!
I always think about the tremendous amount of work it took to build a stone wall. When I was a kid on the farm we had to pick stones from the fields. I was awful.
Nice work from the old farmers.
