are uneconomic and demand for ice has gone down hugely in recent years. We have an ice plant here in Killybegs but the smallest amount of ice going out of any plant in Ireland is going out of here because all the vessels have installed their own ice making facilities on board.

Looks like a gigantic ice cube Bill.
ReplyDeleteIt's a huge ice cube. How do they get it out of the building with no windows?
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
My brother worked for a company that serviced ice makers in restaurants. Without ice, restaurants really go into panic mode!
ReplyDeleteWishing you a nice day.
There is one in my area. At a little ferry port, but I don't think it is still in operation.
ReplyDeleteA sign of the times.
ReplyDeleteYou have captured the cold, loneliness of this place Bill💮
Hello, It does look like a block of ice. Enjoy your day, wishing you a great new week!
ReplyDelete...In Maui ice is important for the many small fishermen.
ReplyDeleteIt is so desolate...
ReplyDeleteIt does feel quite forlorn.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a tired, dated building. A little sad.
ReplyDeleteMy dad, way back, was a calculator mechanic. Thought he'd have a career for life.

Interesting. I wondered why there was an ice making plant.
ReplyDeleteThere would be plenty of market for ice here in the desert.
ReplyDeleteWe could do with some ice here right now as it's 32 degrees C outside today.
ReplyDeleteThere was an ice plant by the harbour where I live but it’s been gone for years. Like the dinosaurs.
ReplyDeleteI live in Las Vegas and it's 106F here today. I could go for some ice right now.
ReplyDeleteThat is something that I have never thought about! It makes sense to have their own equipment.
ReplyDeleteThis photograph does have a sad feel about it.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
The building looks a bit old.
ReplyDeleteGreetings
Maria
It's becoming a sign of changing times, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteSuch a sad building.
ReplyDeleteBill - interesting. I have never heard of an ice plant before ...
ReplyDeleteInteresting post and however that plant is a good memory of the past. Sorry for the company and the workers.
ReplyDeleteIs the ice for the boats to keep their catch cold?
