Patrick leading the way. The parade started out in the sun but before it was over, hail was coming down. Regardless of the weather it was a fun day for all in Killybegs.
the person on the left had a Teresa May face cutout on
cute kids waving to the people
the girl was shooting out bubbles to the people
showing their support for the nurses who were on strike last month for better pay and working conditions
There was no parade here, just an excuse for people to get drunk and drunker. Arrests go up and generally there is a little extra carnage on the roads. I think this is one festival, on balance, we wish Ireland had kept to itself. How it became such a worldwide phenomenon I have no idea.
Thank you for sharing your photos of the parade. It did look a little windy and cold, but it looks like everyone had fun. Happy belated Saint Patrick's Day!
Bill - it made me smile to hear that the parade started with sun and ended in hail … I have attended many an English event with similar weather!!! I am amazed to see the marching bands with accordions - that's a new one for me. Thanks for sharing these fabulous photos!
It was a fun day... even over here in Canada. The Irish are everywhere.
ReplyDelete...once again our St Patricks Day parade was held in the snow! I love the green sports car!

ReplyDeleteYou can tell it's not a U.S. parade. I don't think you'd find accordions or harps in marching bands here!
