the tree

The tree, also known as the "big tree" in Market Square is where people meet for whatever reason.  Everyone knows where it is.  The "big tree" is approximately 160 years old and is very special to the local people.  They love this tree!
Just past the tree you can see the veg man's stand with the awning plus a bus pulling in with tourists.

  1. I have only been 1,5 day in Ireland, so I just want to tell you that it is soooo nice to follow your blog. Dublin was nice, but you have so much more.

  3. J'adore the big old tree Bill, I can just imagine the hullabaloo if they tried cut it down. Bet it gives lots of lovely shade in summer!

  5. I love the idea of having a landmark as a meeting place for locals; it has such a wonderful small town atmosphere about it. I am curious about the street markings; have never seen a pattern like that before. Knowing you're American, I need to tell you to have a happy 4th, too!!

  7. Just found your blog. Thank you for your excellent posts. I've always loved Ireland, and spent some time there myself. Your photo of "The Big Tree" reminds me that in Chicago when you wanted to meet someone downtown it was under "The Clock" at Marshall Field & Co department store. Everyone knew about "The Clock."

  9. That is one amazing old tree and a beauty to boot. I saw where your town is a tourist town and I guess the bus filled with tourists proves it! :)
