I can do it, I know I can. This bird stood with his wings spread out for a long time. We passed him on our walk and when we got back about an hour later, he had a friend visiting him on the rock. Maybe he was giving some advice.
I hate to spoil the fun but that's a Cormorant, a bird that dives to catch fish, and he's standing like that to dry his wings. Most birds have waterproofing on their feathers but, unusually for a bird that spends its life on or under water, the poor old Cormorant gets soaked to the skin every time he dives. This adaptation means that he can dive deeper and cath more fish as air does not get trapped between the feathers. Ain't nature wonderful!
Terrific capture!
ReplyDeleteMaybe he's getting ready for a big move!
