sweeney's hotel

renovation is now completed, it took a very long time with the pandemic pauses and the construction workers who left and had to be replaced.  Not only the outside was transformed by the inside had to be gutted.  I think they did a wonderful job and I imagine it was very spendy.  I finally got to see the finished hotel a few months back.  We were living across the street from it when it first began.

the paper stop2

I guess checking your phone is high priority no matter where you are.

getting the roof done before the bad weather returns.

the paper stop

is in the process of being renovated.  It began in Sept and currently they are working up where the roof used to be.  From one of the locals, this building has been vacant for the last 10 years.  The roof had holes in it and the floors were filled with tons of rubbish which they spent weeks removing and filling the skips.  I have no idea what this building will become but it is going to take a lot more time to finish the project.

carrying in plywood to the building that is being renovated, the tall white one.  The plywood was dropped off about 50 meters so they had t carry it one piece at a time.

the rearview

of the sweeney hotel.  They just finished tearing down a wall and a building back there last week.  Now once they clean it up and the covid restrictions allow construction workers back to work, they will proceed.

Sweeney's Hotel

was built in the 1850s.  Its founder. Johndie Sweeney, died in 1909 aged 100. His family played an important part in the history of Dungloe, in the Land League and the later struggles for independence, as well as being successful in a range of businesses.
Info courtesy of the Dungloe Heritage Trail brochure.

The hotel was sold recently and is in the process of being renovated.  Earlier this year, the windows were replaced with new ones.  They just started working on the hotel recently putting up the scaffolding and screening.

yesterday I received a nice surprise package in the mail from a blogger friend.  It was nice of her to send this.   A bookmark with different language spellings for the word book, a postcard of her town, a writing pen, a coaster with the Brunswick Lion, the best-known landmark in the German city of Braunschweig (Brunswick) and a good luck litte pig.  Very nice indeed! :)  Thanks Iris.

McCafferty's Bar & Restaurant

formerly the Bayview Bar now known as McCaffery's Bar & Restaurant.  It is newly painted with a new sign.  There is still work being done inside so I don't know when it will open.

I posted the bar's painters back on 22/6

house work 2

I showed this house back in late July when the work first started.  They gutted the property to do a complete makeover.  I've heard that this place will be available to rent when it is completed.

Currently this is what it looks like.  They now are beginning to work inside.  Photo taken 06 Oct

renovations

The renovations have begun on this piece of property a few days ago.   The weather has provided the workers the window they need to start the project.  St. Vincent de Paul's charity store is on the ground floor.  Good As New, another charity store is right beside it and both of them are rather small but still offer people a bargain.  It will be interesting to see what becomes of the building once it is done.  New apartments possibly.
