autumn leaves

a touch of autumn, one  of the few trees that's showing some colour in the neighborhood.  The leaves don't last very long on the trees and there is not much colour before the wind blows them all away.

the foyle hotel

the rain and gusty wind is causing some of the plastic covering to rip and flap around.  Tying up the ripped ends helped.

tangled mess

of rope down by the pier.  Where there are boats, you usually see this.  I wonder who unravels it.

white and black

saw these two on a walk and they both looked serious, maybe too serious.

parked down by the holiday homes on Montgomery Terrace.  Didn't see what make it was but I like the looks of it.

monday mural - David Ervine

Seen in Belfast, NI in 2015
the mural painted in 2008 to honour the late David Ervine. Ervine, a prominent protestant unionist, was a member of the Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF) and leader of the Progressive Unionist Party (PUP). Ervine was a key figure in the loyalist ceasefire of 1994, a predecessor of the Good Friday Agreement of 1998.

monday mural - alaska

I took a photo of this mural back in 2000 when we lived in Fairbanks.  Eventually this building, which I believe was the home of the Alaska Rag Co., was torn down and replaced with a Mariott Hotel the following year.   The Yukon Quest, a 1,000 mile Internstional Sled Dog Race from Fairbanks to Whitehorse, Yukon, begins on the Chena River which is right across the street.

the heel bar

one of the few places in Donegal where you can get your shoes repaired.  Growing up, we had a local place where the cobbler would service the community.  You could find a cobbler in any city but not today.  These days people just buy new shoes and throw away the old ones.

a nice evening

down by the water.  For the last week it has been raining off and on during the day but the evenings have been really nice when I go out for my walk and I appreciate that.

CDP theme: photographing the photographer

My wife, Shari took these photos of me on Murphy Dome back in 1998 when we lived in Fairbanks, Alaska.  This could be the beginning of spring because there was still snow on the dome.  Murphy Dome was a great place to go for some wonderful views of the landscape, watch the aurora and also a great place to pick blueberries which we did.   I believe the camera I'm using was a Canon AE1.
