greencastle mural
This Mural in Greencastle is an image of a Greencastle yawl or
drontheim, a traditional fishing boat for many centuries on the north
coasts of Ireland and the northern seaboard of Britain. It was
commissioned by Greencastle Community Development, and was completed in August 1999.

Greencastle is about 4km from Moville. Greencastle takes its name from the castle, built in 1305 by Richard de
Burgo, the Earl of Ulster, to guard the entrance to Lough Foyle. The
Greencastle Marina is situated in the heart of the village,
providing secure and safe berthing at the mouth of Lough Foyle, Co.
Donegal. The Greencastle Marina is a preferred first port
of call for yachts coming from Scotland or Northern Ireland.
