Looks like the same story of Antwerp in Belgium. Saying in a kind of dutch "hand werpen" or throwing a hand cut from the giant Druon Antigoon who asked toll for using the harbor in roman times. The legionair Silvius Brabo did it after a fight and threw it in the river Schelde. His name is also used to give his name to the province Brabant.
Yikes, that's quite a tale. Did they mean to write "cutting ofter?f" instead of "of?' Or maybe this is a regional usage? Either way, the Red Hand of Ulster would give most folks reason to pause and think. Thanks for contributing to this week's Monday Mural.
Now that is a fascinating mural...and a fun look back in history although I'm thinking there's some mythology in this story. :)
