bank of ireland

is going to close down 88 branches around the country and one of them is this one in Dungloe.  Most people do online banking these days.  Another bank, AIB, have mobile banks that visit the towns.  For people who wish to use the bank services, An Post (the postal service) will have a contract with the bank so their services will still be available.

AIB Mobile Bank

Opening the mobile bank.  There used to be a branch here in town before I moved here and it closed.  This gentleman will be standing on the sidelines and chatting with the locals once they come by and stop to say hi.  The bank does close for an hour for lunch  12:30-1:30.
Allied Irish Banks has four mobile Community Banks which cover over 30 rural locations in Donegal, Mayo, Limerick, Clare, Kerry, Cork, Tipperary and Galway.  This mobile comes every Wednesday to Moville.  It opens at 11:15 and leaves town at 3:30.

mobile banking

The first time I saw this mobile bank, I was surprised.  I never knew that they existed.  AIB (Anglo Irish Bank) previously had a branch in town but it closed.  The mobile unit comes in to town once a month, pulls up to the curb and their customers show up to use their services.  There are ATM machines available around town so their customers are not completely without access to their money.  On the other side of the unit is a door and stairs that lead you in to the bank.  There was a line there and a security person so I didn't take a photo when I walked by.  Maybe next time I'll get a chance.
