The sculpture titled Suaimhneas ("Peace" or "Tranquillity") is a memorial artwork designed by Buncrana sculptor John McCarron.
Location: The sculpture is situated in the Gweedore Business Park's Páirc an Phobail in West Donegal.
Purpose: It was unveiled to commemorate children, teenagers, and young adults who passed away due to tragedy or illness.

Makes you stop and think.
ReplyDeleteInteresting sculpture.
ReplyDeleteGives one a lot to ponder. Thanks for sharing, Bill.
ReplyDeleteI am trying to figure out what's in its right hand...
ReplyDeleteIt does send a message of sadness and contemplation.
ReplyDeleteA touching memorial statue.
ReplyDeleteWhat a poignant and beautiful tribute to those lost far too soon. The name Suaimhneas feels perfectly chosen for a space meant to offer peace and reflection to the community. Having the sculpture located in a public park creates such a meaningful place for families to gather.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly feels sad.

Thank you for the description. It's incredibly powerful -- you can just feel the sorrow looking at it.
ReplyDeleteThat does feel sad.
ReplyDeletePoor thing!... He looks very downcast... Could he be a poet?... So sad! ☘️🌼🌷☘️
ReplyDeleteReturning from my break, I wish you a beautiful and happy month of May. A hug from Portugal.
Boa noite meu querido amigo Bill. A escultura é vem interessante. Gostei muito da foto.
ReplyDeleteSeems like a sad statue.
ReplyDeleteThe title of this sculpture should be "Depressed" or perhaps "Sad". With its lowered head and empty middle it is not showing either peace or tranquility.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very poignant sculpture and reflects the sorrow of losing someone so young.
ReplyDeleteThe flowers at the base are beautiful.
All the best Jan
Fascinating sculpture, Bill. My Monday blog post is up but unfortunately didn't show in Blogger news reader.
ReplyDeleteI mentioned this issue on my blog post.
I hope you have a lovely week ahead.
Interesting sculpture, it does look sad.
ReplyDeleteWhat a unique sculpture indeed
ReplyDelete...skinny fellow!
ReplyDeleteA unique sculpture!
ReplyDeleteI don't really get "peace" or "tranquility" from it.
ReplyDeleteReminds me of other world-weary statues I've seen in Ireland... what a history.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly is a sad one, and the statue head bowed and wrists crossed it looks so sad. Very nice to remind people of those people.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteIt does look sad, sad about all the loss of young people.
Take care, enjoy your day!
It really makes the point, doesn’t it?
ReplyDeleteBastante interessante essa escultura pensando, Bill feliz terça-feira abraços.
ReplyDeleteInteresting sculpture with a deep meaning. Several years ago, I was given a similar, but much smaller, steel sculpture. I keep it in my little flat on the lake. When I go there, I'll photograph it and show it to you.
ReplyDeleteI thought for a moment that the sculpture was a chair. Sorry for that.
ReplyDeleteI like it :-D
ReplyDeleteAlways a worthy sculpture to remember something like that.
ReplyDeleteEssa é a nova versão de "O Pensador", de Rodin. rsrsrsrs

That sure hurts to look at...
ReplyDeleteIt carries a quiet weight of sorrow and reflection, inviting anyone who sees it to pause and feel the depth of its message.
