veg man

On Tuesdays veg man sets up his vegetable stand in Market Square which is about 2 minutes from our apartment.  He is there all day from 7ish to 4ish.  He usually has an older gentleman helping him set up his operation for the day.   There is usually a steady flow of people coming and going all day.  If you go later in the day, he might be out of something you want.  We do have a local grocery store which is about a block away and a Centra store about a ten minute walk so everything is close by and convenient.  We usually buy our produce here and other items at the other two stores.  No matter the weather, you can count on the veg man  being in Market Square on Tuesdays :)

  1. Always good to get some fresh, locally-produced veg. These stallholders, whether they know it or not, are a survival from the days when nearly all trade was conducted via markets.

  2. This is what we do not have here in Norway. Only the Old Fish Market exist, but it is so expensive and serves only some "local" food for the tourists.

  3. Good to see him doing a brisk trade and great to have local/fresh produce to hand.

  5. You're very fortunate to have such a fine resource so close by. One of our ongoing frustrations is that our supermarket's fruit and veggies are often not very good and we don't have a decent "farmer's" market or such veggie stand as you have.

  7. Like Jacob, I get frustrated with the quality of veggies in the supermarkets. We have farmers markets but they are very seasonal.

  8. I think it is important to buy from markets and the local shops. If not, they just close, and we all have to go to the BIG food shops.
