the quiet man

Statue of John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara is located in the center of Cong, a little town in Western Ireland. The statue of two actors is located here, because I. This town shot the film "The Quiet Man" in the 50's. Nowadays, it is a nice statue, where you can see the two actors.

Yesterday's photo of the Cong River has the old Monks' fishing house on the Cong River.  I forgot to mention that so some people didn't see that when I updated it.

  5. I love that statue, and most of John Wayne's movies. My uncle was his favorite movie writer, and a close friend.

  7. Someone I know went to Cong to trace his ancestors and loved it so much that he stayed a week. The only reason I remember is that he mentioned that movie was made there.

  9. Well this is an unexpected surprise. I would not have expected a statue of John Wayne in Ireland.
There is a huge statue of John Wayne just inside the airport at Newport Beach California. In fact, the airport is named John Wayne International.

  14. The fact that this charming town in Western Ireland was the filming location for "The Quiet Man" in the 1950s adds a rich layer of cinematic history to the area. The statue serves as a beautiful tribute to the film and its stars, and it's great that visitors can still appreciate this piece of movie heritage today.

  17. Hello Bill :) Lovely statue. I well remember seeing the iconic film and the beautiful flame red hair of Maureen OHara and also John Wayne famous for his roles in westerns, but I also remember the beautiful scenery. Good find!

  21. Cannot stand John Wayne...draft dodger, and one of those responsible for blackmailing a lot of people in Hollywood during the McCarthy era.
