kaleidoscope of colour

located on Foyle Street.  The project for this mural was undertaken in 2011.  It was part of an innovative new urban arts project which quite literally allows local teenagers to add a splash of colour to their community.
Internationally renowned Philadelphia-based graffiti artist Ernel Martinez recently hooked up with budding painters from the Moville Family Resource centre and the Playhouse in Derry before tackling a wall between Gillen’s supermarket and the Allied Irish Bank.  The new wall is a kaleidoscope of gaudy colours, arranged in the style of a stained glass window.

  4. Nice colorful but a bit more subdued colors would be appropriate in the surroundings. Do you want to blend in or jump out. Thats the question.

  8. Do you like this, Bill? I have mixed emotions. I think I'd rather see a plain wall. But it's nice they involved the kiddos.

  9. Gosh this is a huge endeavour Bill. It certainly does brighten up what was probably an otherwise ordinary wall. Wonder what the locals think about it?

  12. Nice. I think lots of places hire artists to paint structures like this, thinking that perhaps it will prevent the hooligan graffiti painters from defiling the walls.
