the ark house

This is the Ark House  and it is located not far from the pier.  The text that is below was found on a Moville brochure which lists the history of some of the old residences in town.

On this site in the 18th century sat an old sailing rig called The Ark.  It was the home of Captain Ramsey while on shore leave  He enjoyed entertaining "on board" with many lavish parties.  It fell into despair and was replaced by the present house with the timbers of the rig being used throughout.  Near the Ark House is the old stone Pier in the mid-1800s Moville saw many sad farewells as people left for Canada and the US from the pier.

The Moville Pier today, once used as an emigration point, now popular with fishermen and the local rowing club.

  8. Hello, Bill, from Nelson, NZ. In 2003 we finally made our way to Ireland, (after I got my BA in the USA reading Joyce.) We stayed in Buncrana a few nights and went all the way up to the Museum of Famine. We were in Scotland, (for the second time,) and Ireland for six weeks and when we came home husband's hard drive failed and lost all our thousand+ (?) photos except one roll of B&W he took! But some scenery and people we'll never forget. (And a used book shop in Shannon.)

    1. Hi Meg, that is an ouch moment when all the photos were lost. I kind of know the feeling but it wasn't as bad as the one your husband experienced. I always backup mine now on an external hard drive to be safe.
